this is bum's bar-b-que in windsor n c , and old service station that has great food....try it!!

my hometown

i love painting my little town of washington n c , i know all the pro business want it to grow and i do also,, but only to the rate that it will keep the tax rate down,,,,pray for me..

side of the road

how many times have you been driving down a typical eastern north carolina road and saw this in the ditch,,,,how great is that!!!

have been working on paintings of old boathouses, i get something on my mind and i just keep painting till i'me over it,,,,,,,now i have old vw vans,  hippie vans, on my mind....

watching for snakes

this is a plein air painting i did about 2 years ago it is about 4 miles west of chocowinity, contuined to watch my feet, it was overgrown and i really don't like snakes,,,,

up the tar

up the tar river just before you get to the grimesland bridge this was on the left, i took this photo appox 7 years ago,,..keep those old photos,  you may need them....

young lady

while at a car show last weekend i say this young lady heading to the concession stand  and i shot two or three photos of her in between the cars i was shooting.  when i got back home  and was going thru the photos.........there it was....
i had to paint this,  i really like it , ihope you do to.....

up in the air

had a guy walk into my studio a couple of weeks ago and after looking around, turned to me and said ,you guys never paint skydivers..........

ii love watching kids playing in the surf,  we should all be so innocent and really enjoy the simple things..

around here it is not that unusal to see one of these on the edge of the water,,i think they look cool,, i wonder if they think we look cool....something to think about!!!!!

hyde co.

on my last visit to hyde co. i took appox 75 photos and last week i pulled them all out trying to find something to paint, chose this one because it looked so lonely and the road just went on forever,,,,i hope you like it.....

looking back

was a nice warm day today,  we have been through a two week rainey spell,..

went into the air force , now,,i would
love to go back there,,,,

loosen up

have been trying to get a little loose with my brush  strokes if i paint faster and don,t plan the stroke i seem to do better....not easy to do but i am trying...

hippie van

whats not to love about an old vw hippie van, we all  can think back of some happier times back in the 60,s. i have a friend that does not watch the national news  and yet time goes on, but he does not worry about it........i think he might be right..

riding country roads

i love to get out and ride the back roads around home, i say this old store/veggie stand just south of nashville n c . the sign on the tree said open,,but they were closed and had been for a long time. i sat across the road and painted this for almost 2 hours,,,,,three cars came by.

cooler weather

the middle of july and the heat is on,  i
am now going to the studio or plein air
painting early, about 6 to 7 am and then about 2 pm take off and find me
a cool spot.

the old masters

i have always had a thing about painting boats and i hope someday that i can do it like the old masters did it, they had  to grind their own paint and only had appox 12 colors and now we have over a 100 and we still try to master what they did...

summer

the summer season is finally here and everyone is getting ready
for a trip to the beach or to the mountains,,,have fun and be safe

i was thinking today, i paint about 5 painting every week and most weeks i rub out 2 of them, so as the sign says in my studio..'NOT ALL PAINTINGS ARE KEEPERS"...

my studio will be closed this friday, evening for the washington art walk due to my brothers wife passing away and funeral in fayetteville n c  this saturday, she was a grand lady who fought a long battle..we will all miss her....

back in the day

i have always loved old pickups, there was a time when a truck was a truck,,,not jacked up with 18 inch wheels and loud mufflers,,,back in my day we lowered the rear end with fender skirts on........we looked so cool,,oh yes, we had
glass packs,  oh and yes we also wore peg paints.

i can feel summer in the air....it was wet today but it was also warmer.  the farmers market opens soon,  april fools day and JACKS at the boat landing opens in appox three weeks...

 today was a very windy day but you can see the signs of summer, a little bit of green showing up in the grass,, lots of birds and longer days...thank goodness
   bob carr, an old plein air painter friend of mine came by the studio and it was good to see him,, making plans for our
outing...

this is my last cold painting for this winter.....i think.  we have had a couple of very good  days, tomorrow we go plein air painting...

today i was really in the mood to paint some clouds, one of my favorite things .
last week i sumitted three paintings to a show in greenville and none of them were accepted which was funny because one of them had won two awards, one of them a first place,.and one had won second.
  in these type of shows the juror picks all the paintings, appox 50 to 60,
